About Us Agenda Get Active News Press Room

The Healthy Washington Coalition is the largest health care reform organization that has existed in Washington State in recent history.

The diverse make up of the group includes:

  • labor unions
  • business organizations
  • business leaders
  • health care providers
  • hospitals
  • consumer groups
  • public interest groups

We have one common goal in mind: to achieve secure, quality, affordable healthcare for all Washingtonians.

We have a broad ranging agenda that is meant to improve the health care system through ambitious reform while ensuring the system is financed.

Our coalition began more than five years ago as the Health Care for Washington Workers Coalition. Three years ago we changed our name to the Fair Share Coalition and broadened both our membership and goals. By 2007, the Coalition decided that we need to develop and support a broad comprehensive vision for Washington’s health care system. The Coalition renamed itself the Healthy Washington Coalition and adopted a set of Principles that guides the Coalition’s legislative goals. The membership of the Coalition is growing weekly and is dedicated to ensuring that Washington State has quality affordable health care coverage for all of its residents.

Come together.

Coalition Principles 1. Ensure secure, high quality and affordable health care to all Washingtonians.

2. Ensure choice of provider and quality affordable health plans.

3. Promote an affordable sliding scale for health care costs to ensure personal responsibility by all adult Washingtonians.

4. Share the cost for the health system and the responsibility for making the system work between individuals, employers and government.

5. Care should be affordable for individuals and employers, including small businesses, and changes to the system should benefit those employers who provide quality affordable health care for their employees.

6. Encourage personal healthful behavior by providing incentives and health education.

7. Require that Government be a watchdog ensuring the health system is working and fair for individuals, employers, and providers; that health care remains affordable; and that there are high quality affordable health plans available.
